THE SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD

The sweet slow cast of a bamboo fly rod. It's as if you have a time machine in your hand. Everything seems to slow down. The rush of the river, the pace of the clouds. Wind becomes a gentle breeze and the warm summer sun just hangs there. In no hurry for sunset.

Most of us have heard some form of the above description of fishing with bamboo. Well simply put, the experience is special. What makes the bamboo fly rod so special? First of all, it is made from natural materials. A form of wood, if you like. Others say a form of reed or grass. In any event, the split cane bamboo has a way of connecting the angler in such a way, that the angler, rod, water, and fish all become one. It does sound rather metaphysical. Each angler must experience it for themselves. Viewed by many as the perfect fly fishing machine, the bamboo fly rod excels at all aspects of the fly fishing experience. When fishing close-in the fly rod is extremely accurate. The slow action of the rod reduces "false casts" and is capable of delivering a small fly to a rising fish without so much as a hint of noise or splash. Some skill required. When fishing distance, the energy storing capacity of the rod allows for long casts with less work. A traditional slow action bamboo fly rod allows for a more delicate presentation and does an excellent job of protecting light (5x-7x) tippets.

THE KEULING BAMBOO FLY ROD

What makes the Keuling bamboo fly rod different from many of the rods on the market today? First of all, there are one hundred years of "Old School" traditional craftsmanship behind the making of each Keuling rod. One of the key differences, as you might expect, is the quality of the split cane bamboo rod blank.

These blanks have always been and always will be made in the USA. Nowhere else in the world can you find a better bamboo fly rod blank. The building of a Keuling bamboo fly rod begins with such a blank.

The rod is then assembled using the finest components. The cork grips are made from ultra- flor grade cork. Agate stripping guides made with titanium frames and nickel-titanium snake guides are used on each bamboo fly rod. Each fly rod is made with nickel-silver ferrules perfectly fitted to each rod blank. Each blank is hand finished and guides are wrapped with silk and hand finished. The finished fly rod along with its matching rod bag and powder coated rod tube represent sterling examples of old school craftsmanship and beauty.
